One of the most original and inspiring compositions that I have heard in ages...it's up there with Wishbone Ash's Argus, Pink Floyd's Wish you were here or Dark side of the moon and Eternal Tapestry's beyond the 4th door - in short i cannot praise this album enough, destined to be a classic
Favorite track: River Sprites.
Hailing from Brisbane's fertile underground music scene, Cardinal Fuzz, Sky Lantern Records and Tym Guitars are thrilled to present the latest sounds from the premier Australian psych outfit, Dreamtime. After seemingly endless nights spent jamming, writing, rewriting, lamenting, practicing, recording and mixing, the band has sculpted a sprawling interstellar creation that is their third album - and first in almost three years - Strange Pleasures.
For the development of their latest opus, Dreamtime went about creating an imaginary, dream-like sci-fi fantasy film that follows a spirit's journey from the human body through death, mystic rituals, the spirit world, a soul's liberation into the cosmos, multiple reincarnations, and out into astral journeys and alien encounters. It's a vivid exploration of euphoric fantasy and paranoid nightmares that is sure to stand as one of the most ambitiously creative projects the international psychedelic-rock scene has seen in many a moon. For intrepid psychonauts wishing to hitch a ride, Dreamtime hits all of the sweetest aural spots: heavy tribal grooves on the opening track “Luminous Night”, laid back folk-rock trad on “River Spites”, propulsive, full-on fuzztone during “The Sentient,” and the celestial lysergia that is the album's epic title track, all interwoven together with kosmische analogue synth swirls and space oscillations.
Recorded by Darek Mudge at The Shed Recording Studio over two days on a old automated analogue desk, the warm, vintage sound of the recordings perfectly captures the tripped out visions, mysticism, and spirituality of the music herein. Presented on all-black double vinyl housed in a gorgeous gatefold sleeve featuring original artwork by Indonesian artist Riandy Karuniawan
